A few quick thoughts as I finish up SPN season 8

I had some issues with the first half of this season, mostly to do with Sam--not that he had his fling with normality, a girlfriend and a dog, but that the show seemed to blame him for doing that. I understand the impulse, but I have to admit some empathy with Sam, here. And Dean's storyline gave us Benny, who is by far my favorite guest star since ( Read more... )

I won't try to outline my issues with the first half of the season, not this late and when I'm this tired, but I liked Benny very much and would have liked more of the relationship-building in Purgatory.

--I had a strong suspicion early on in the season that Dean would kill Benny to send him back to Purgatory. I thought it would be at Benny's request, so I got that part wrong, but I was totally spot on with Benny not doing well topside and Dean killing him to send him back to Purgatory. That whole scene between the two of them . . . yeah. (Here's hoping they do find a way to bring Benny back, and not make him evil.)

--I liked Charlie in her first appearance and her 3rd appearance. Not so much the LARP ep. I love the sibling vibe she's got with the Winchesters, and I think her telling Dean "I love you" is the first time we've actually heard someone tell him that in so many words, yes? I loved the way she said it: very matter-of-fact, no strings attached. I liked the episode quite a bit.

I bet, if the sitch with Sam had not come up, at some point Benny *would* have asked Dean to kill him. :(

The more I see of Charlie, the more I like her. The LARP ep was all-around weaker than her other two, but I love the vibe she's got with the boys, her new semi-Woman of Letters status, and the fact that she gives Dean hugs. Dean would be so much better off with an adorable little sister, you know?
