6 - When you write, do you prefer writing male or female characters?
I don't think I have a preference either way. In fic, I write more male characters than female ones, but I'm fairly sure that's a function of my attraction to buddy shows (there are very few really good female buddy shows, depressingly), and the general number of interesting male characters in genre fiction.
(In original writing, on the other hand, I'm now noticing a tendency to create a lot of female characters.)
I do have a hard time sympathizing with really "girly" female characters--fashion holds little interest for me, and I'm not a romance writer. (When I've written women interacting, those scenes often end up an involuntary Bechdel pass.) What makes me interested in characters is deeper than clothes or romance--what they care about, what drives them, how they react to stress, how they love and hate and create. Which is utterly gender-neutral, for me.

8 - Do you write OCs? And if so, what do you do to make certain they're not Mary Sues, and if not, explain your thoughts on OCs.
