Um. So. I'm getting very distracted from the story I'm writing because I realized that the Ninth Doctor has a Northern accent, but it sounds different (to my untaught American ear) than Sam Tyler's accent. (Most notably, I don't recall all of Nine's "u"s sounding like "oo"--Sam does that ALL the time, "Real...oonreal," etc.)
Having done some online research, it appears that "Northern" really means "any of several dozen variations, often in areas not many kilometers apart."
Basically, if Sam Tyler met Nine, where might he think Nine was from? Be as specific as you like. :)
And if you have no idea, do you have any suggestions as to where I might find an answer to this question?
