Fandom: Stargate SG-1 Title: C is for Child Setting: mid-season one, prior to "Singularity" Author's Notes: written for sg_fignewton's Janet Alphabet Soup, and Gen Fic Day May 2009.
Oh, Janet. This is beautifully sad, though knowing Cassie is about to come along tempers that. Very in character and realistic. Janet's forced cheeriness at the end breaks my heart. (Though she'd be in her early 30s here - is that really so old?) Lovely!

No, it really isn't; I sort of was working off the idea that with her failed marriage and now the weird shift in her military career (lol), Janet had sort of dropped the idea of having kids, and this wakes all that up again.
I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yeah, I kind of want to see Janet with a newborn now. :)
Hey - any hints on who the guy was?
I wondered if someone would ask! I don't know, I have a feeling Janet's the sort who might actually go out on the town if she were in the mood; but I do confess I almost had her identify him as "a civilian consultant," because I knew everyone would go, "OMG IT'S DANIEL." *eg*
Naturally I didn't read that it was taking place pre-Singularity, so I was thinking this might have been taking place right about mid season 7, and I was like, oh wth she can't be pregnant during Heroes! (thankfully I re-read it and I had a chance to chill!)
Thank goodness for Cassie to let Janet get all the mothering she wanted!!
Oh, gosh! No, I'm not quite that cruel. I tried to figure out some way to place it firmly in season one just in the text of the story, but failed dismally. Maybe I'll attempt to insert that in a rewrite.

Even knowing canon, I was disappointed when the test was negative.
Very nice.

But yeah, I decided to just let everyone come up with their own possible father for this baby.

I do very like how Janet rises above - it would be a survival trait for her in any circumstances.

I do think Janet is pretty much the ultimate survivor--and I expect that Cassie's arrival put paid to a lot of the maternal angst, anyway. :)
