A necessarily paradoxical thought

Idealism is great...as long as you realize that we have to live in the world as it is, and work with that, rather than demanding a non-existent utopia.

Sometimes idealism and national myths need deconstructing...but if we ever lose track of the stories that teach us to be better than we are, we will be utterly lost.

This is why I have such hope. Because from everything the President-Elect has said, he understands that. He doesn't have a magic wand. He knows this is going to be a lot of work, and everyone (in the country and very likely out of it) is going to need to pull together.

But we have hope, now. With hope, all things are possible.
