My First Story Day (well, not yet, but keep reading)

Dec 19, 2007 13:15

Okay, amberdulen has had a great idea for the writers on my flist: pick a day on which we will all post our very first finished story for the education and amusement of all. (Mine is from when I was 9; I was terribly excited to finish it, and I'm sure it's overblown, sentimental, and not very tidy grammatically. Also very religious, and with a sort of ( Read more... )

I like this First Story Day idea very much. I might not have anything from earlier than my teen years, but I think that's when I wrote my first *finished* story, anyway. And I really want to read your nine-year-old time-travel thing.

There's a short Jonas fic out there with him leading a group of Langarans who escape just after the Ori occupy the planet...they're on a stolen ship and trying to get to Earth, and it's not exactly what you describe, and kind of grim, but I could prolly did up the link, if you want.

Well, first finished story...whenever that was. :-) Or at least, first finished story you still have copies of. And the time travel will probably impress you less than it should, because I was a fairly wimpy and unoriginal author at 9. Heh.

I think I may have read that Jonas fic. Wouldn't say no to the link if you've got it handy, though. Cause Jonas does not get enough love. *snuggles him*

Hey, I don't think much of anyone was a very original author at nine. I certainly wasn't at thirteen (the age at which I wrote the story I'll prolly be posting).

And Jonas really doesn't get enough love, does he? Here's the fic, which I thought was really cool, if not altogether in line with my Happy Endings For Everyone, Plzkthnx policy. It's the first fic on the page. Just to warn you: the second fic on the page is slash, so you may wish to avoid. I kind of missed the fact that it was slash until I had gotten about halfway through it and then went "Um...wha? Oh." Oops.

Hey, that's a good idea. That amberdulen chick is pretty smart. :P

I'd totally do it. I just have to hunt up the story, and decide whether to transcribe it or to scan the blue-ink-on-school-tablet-paper for maximum hilarity.

Awesome! I'm not sure mine would scan well, cause I'm pretty sure it's pencil on lined paper, and it's...good lord...almost 20 years old now. *headdesk*

Oh my gosh, you're right.

How are we so OLD?

I'm really not sure where my first finished story is. I think it was one of the ones I thumped out on one of my mother's typewriters; I can think of two possibilities. (She had these two mechanical ones that I guess either she never expected to use again or she figured were sturdy enough to survive being thrown to the tender mercies of two small children. They certainly seemed very heavy at the time.) Although there might be earlier ones floating around somewhere....

Some of your fic ideas sound fascinating. I don't actually watch any of the shows, so I can't provide them, but there are a few I'd like to read. *grin*

See if you can hunt one of those stories down! Cause really, the more people I can get to do this, the more fun it will be--embarrassment lessens when it's spread around a bit. *g*

And I just wish I had time and energy to write these fics. *sigh*

If they're anywhere, they're probably buried somewhere in my parents' house. They only existed as typewriter copies and we probably only had the one of each. I'll ask Mom about it though. ;)

Oh, I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees the Winchester Boys in "The Peace Carol." That song and "When the River Meets the Sea" are my favorite songs that came out of the John Denver and the Muppets Christmas special.

I wish there were a way I could share the melody with you. I love it so.

I should probably point out that "The Peace Carol" was not originally written for the Muppet special. It was written in 1965 (copyright 1966) in honor of Rev. Edith Craig Reynolds, a Baptist minister with whom the author had several pleasant visits.

Additionally, I have no idea *what* my first finished story was, let alone *where* it is now. The one that's coming to my mind was one I wrote in 5th grade. I also had poetry assignments and the like back in grade school, but again, where they are, I've not a clue.

Aww, sadness! I'd love to read some of your early work. It can't be worse than mine. :-)
