Little Girls
To distract Rin from continuing to ask about the cause of their laughter, Sango suggested rinsing out the blood in Inuyasha’s clothes.
As the two females knelt at the river’s edge with Inuyasha’s shirt and jacket, Miroku dropped down beside the hanyo. He examined the ragged, red lines over the bare shoulder and upper back, and sighed. “I could’ve used your healing ability several times past last year.”
Inuyasha snorted. “You would’ve just gotten even deeper into trouble, bouzo.”
Miroku chuckled. “I couldn’t have been any worse than you. Trying to fight with a hole in your gut...”
“Taking poison so you wouldn’t feel what you were doing to yourself?”
“Eh...ah well. No sense debating who was the bigger fool.”
“Keh!”
Silence. Shifting position, Inuyasha braced elbow against thigh and chin against hand, staring at the girls, ears twitching slowly. Tentatively, Miroku slung his arm across the bare shoulders.
“Still don’t understand how Sesshomaru ever tolerated her,” said Inuyasha after a while, voice quiet.
“She piqued his curiosity?” Miroku suggested. “She is quite an extraordinary little girl. Just to approach him...”
“Yeah.” Inuyasha sighed. “Little girls. Don’t understand them.”
“Eh? There’s more than one?”
Inuyasha raised his head, eyes unfocusing. “Before I met you guys ... before Kikyo nailed me to Goshinboku ... little Kaede ... she seemed to like me ... and Koranna ...”
“Koranna?” After long pause.
“She wanted me to help her pick flowers.”
Miroku started to smirk, then realized no urge to laugh.
“Tell me?”
