There was no pain as the arrow pierced his chest. Perhaps because Inuyasha's heart had already been wrested from his breast.
Opportunity slipped from his fingertips and he couldn’t find it in himself to care. The loss of the jewel was inconsequential compared to the loss of Kikyo’s love.
How could you?
Eyelids drooped as an all consuming lethargy drowned his senses. Death? Surely death would not feel so familiar.
Kikyo. She was sealing him to the Goshinboku.
Did you ever love me?
Darkness consumed his world and devoured the empty space where his heart had been. Letting someone close could never result in anything other than heartache. Never again - love was too painful.
Elapsed by the world
Lonely boy cries for his heart
Lost once, now returns.
Golden eyes glowered at the sleeping girl whilst clawed fingertips rubbed subduing beads rhythmically. This woman was supposed to be Kikyo’s reincarnation? She was intriguingly unlike her predecessor. Inuyasha tamped down his curiosity ruthlessly. He couldn’t allow that. Never again.
Unbidden, love sneaks
Into the emptiest heart
Stoking love’s embers.
“The souls are saying their last farewell,” Myoga mumbled, his small voice despondent as Inuyasha stared at Kagome and Shippo. Fox fire rippled around them in a tumultuous display.
She was dead?
Inuyasha stumbled. He’d won the battle with Hiten, but at what cost?
“Don’t go!” Not again.
He grasped Kagome’s hand and gasped at the warmth.
“... You’re alive?”
Relief swamped him. Never again would he let a loved one go.
