S'up guys, have 20 Things You Didn't Know About Mikuru Asahina -- a.k.a Ichi's collection of random headcanon. I'll probably add to it as more develops. ♥
o1. She's not quite as clumsy and helpless as she seems -- it's exaggerated. If she thinks it will help somehow (eg. by the chain reaction of tripping onto Kyon > getting Haruhi jealous > having Kyon have to talk to Haruhi > bringing them closer), she'll fake things. ... She's still not the most coordinated person, though. Her balance is a little off, and she tends to drop things and trip when she's distracted. And yeah, she's still pretty flaily and easily embarrassed -- that's just how she is socially, though.
o2. She's a bit of an all-around animal lover, but she has a major liking for birds. Were it up to her, she'd have an apartment full of different breeds of birds. She probably wants to work as a zoologist, or a breeder or something when she's done with her school career.
o3. Her apartment is pretty close to Itsuki's, for the sake of convenience during sudden surges of closed spaces, and so it's easy for them to meet up and discuss things, if need be -- she would talk to Kyon, but he's normal so she doesn't want to over-involve him, and she's trying not to get too close to him. Yuki just scares her, so Itsuki was her obvious choice for who she should talk with about Haruhi-related things.
o4. Speaking of her apartment -- it is amazingly clean, to the point of being, like. OCD-clean. It's pristine, cleaned from floor to ceiling, and with not a thing out of place. Nothing broken at all. Girl needs a hobby, seriously.
o5. She's only overly clumsy around other people -- especially Haruhi, to try and fit Haruhi's ideal image of her -- the "moe" character. If she's acting like her normal self (which she rarely does, except very occasionally around Tsuruya), she's still a bit more clumsy around others, because she becomes kind of nervous about their image of her. She's pretty self-conscious.
o6. Mikuru is actually a brilliant cook, but only for herself -- due to her acting clumsy and generally being a little clumsier around others anyway, she tends to mess it all up, and they think she's a terrible cook. She really loves brewing tea, though, so she can't stand to screw that up, clumsy or not.
o7. Her love of tea goes to the point that she actually has collections of china tea sets. She keeps them in a very secure cupboard, on top of an antique dresser in her apartment. It's one of her only and main personal items.
o8. She doesn't mind playing sports, but again, she acts clumsy around others, so it becomes difficult -- and her athletic abilities aren't great, so she can't try out for a team outside of North High, where the others wouldn't see her. Nonetheless, her favourites are netball and beach volleyball, but she hasn't ever really tried boyish things like soccer (outside of a few P.E. lessons, at least).
o9. Her favourite class is Language -- she takes French. Her other HSC electives are Visual Arts and, surprisingly, Science. She also takes a higher unit of Maths, to go hand-in-hand with the Science, and she's pretty damn good at it. Being a time-traveller and having to know all of the physics of it will do that to you.
1o. She's a talented artist, too -- her strong points are view-sketches (as in, things she can see and replicate, where no imagination is required) and photography.
11. In Science, even though during a practical she will drop and break everything, she somehow manages to always get full or near-full marks -- she also scores highl on her written exams and assignments.
12. She loves French things. Especially fashion. She absolutely adores French clothes and accessories, and she owns a beret, but she never wears it outside because she thinks she looks silly in it >: Sometimes Tsuruya will wear one for her.
13. And back on the topic of her French -- at first, she really did dislike Haruhi a bit before she'd met her, because just before she was sent back to investigate the huge time problem Haruhi had caused, she was about to organise a vacation to France. So once she found out that a teenage girl God ruined what could have been her only chance to see France, she was kind of unhappy about it. She spent a few days at school just sitting around moping and daydreaming about going to France, which was how she first met Tsuruya.
14. She missed everyone from her timeline a lot. One time, she actually snuck over to where some of her friends from the future lived, and just watched them -- she couldn't talk to them, because that would fuck up time. But she got found out by her supervisors, and was given a warning and watched more closely.
15. As a child, when Mikuru had yet to learn how to control her powers, she would sometimes just jump suddenly into the future or past. She'd normally hit about five different points in time before she managed to get back home. Most of the time, being a ditz, she wouldn't really notice until her parents started freaking out and hugging her once she'd returned. If she did time-jump and realise, though, she'd start crying and just sit there until she was back in her time.
16. When she was about 8, she was taken from her parents -- who had raised her, despite the fact that they knew there was something wrong with her, having witnessed her time-travelling and the occasional jumps in time she created. Mikuru was placed in the care of a woman from the Organisation. Her parents had their memories erased, and were given a new daughter, who Mikuru now resents a lot.
17. She can control it now, but as a child, something a little similar to Haruhi would happen -- in fits of extremely overpowering emotions, time would go a little funny. It wasn't as extreme as what Haruhi does, but there were little jumps and hiccoughs, which was how she was noticed by the Organisation.
18. In the future, she only knew the SOS Brigade in passing, though she'd met Kyon a little more face-to-face when he time-travelled back as John Smith. She's seen Itsuki and Yuki around when there's a situation where the Organisation needs their help, but she didn't really speak to them. She's never seen Haruhi in the future. She's not sure what it's going to be like when she returns to her time -- suddenly, a lot of people who didn't know her before will now, but she doesn't know if they'll still remember her, or if they'll be friends even in three years time.
19. She hates that she has ridiculously massive boobs. >: She is very self-conscious, and Haruhi's playboy outfits do not help in the slightest with this. She's more conscious around boys than girls, naturally, and she's extremely nervous about Kyon and Itsuki -- Haruhi and Yuki she's always nervous about, but Yuki doesn't care what Mikuru looks like, and she has to be self-conscious around Haruhi, because she has to try and be just what Haruhi wants her to be.
2o. While she appreciates (although doesn't always believe) compliments, if someone is speaking to her alone and goes too far, she has no objections to slapping them across the face -- she's learnt this by now. It's likely she's met some forward people, whether in her time or Haruhi's time, and she's realised that she really does have to stop things before they go overboard. She'd prefer to slap someone for being too much of a pervert, than to have to try and defend herself against someone trying to force themselves on her -- and she would have to fight back without doing anything that seems "out of character" for the faint image she's created for herself at North High.
