-- Marvel Omega had an extremely awesome update of its X-Men line of titles this week, 3 of which had my name attached to them. Think about real life conversations for a minute. People pause, back up and add on stuff as they remember more and more about the subject they're discussing, stammer, stutter, interrupt themselves and others, go off on tangents. There's a reasons why transcripts of actual conversations go on for pages and pages. Because most people go on for far longer than they actually have to when talking about something.
Take Robert Altman's movies for instance. Conversations in Robert Altman movies are a lot like real life conversations in that people don't politely wait until the other person has finished what they're saying before they start talking. Altman frequently has two, three or even four people all talking at the same time. Or stepping on each other's sentences. Or somebody will start a sentence and somebody else will finish it.
Now if writers wrote dialog the way that people actually did talk it would be unreadable and probably boring as hell. But in fiction, dialog has to be entertaining, provide information, move the plot along and reveal character. That's not to say that writers can't insert bits of business like a stutter or indicate a foreign accent to give a character flavor but you can't go crazy with it. But above all, a writer has to be able to silence his own voice and listen to the voice of the characters he's writing about and be true to who they are and not what he is. Otherwise the writer is simply putting his thoughts, feelings and his opinion into the mouths of the characters.
Bendis can't write dialog because there's no room in his head to listen to any voice but his own.

Also, and here's a very important fact, Derrick sticks to his convictions, just like you often brag about doing. Except he's able to do it without alienating everyone around him.
The people you insult are your betters in every sense of the word. You think we're nothing? Fine by me. That makes you even less than nothing.
