Back when I lived in Wisconsin, I began collecting pink Depression glass (for some reason it's more plentiful there than in Missouri). I have a pretty sizable collection of
Pink Doric that mainly sits around and looks pretty (when it's not coated with dust). It's by far the 'girliest' thing I own. I've pulled it out a time or two when I had friends over but mostly it's sits dejected and untouched.
I finished my bran muffins and wanted to try one for a snack. I decided a half a cup of skim milk would go well with it. I suddenly decided I wanted it to be special. Why shouldn't I? They're just sitting there, begging to be used. So I had my muffin on a little pink dessert plate and my milk out of a tiny pink cup on a little pink saucer. It was fun! I think I'm going to start using them more. The smaller, more genteel plates of 60-70 years ago won't make me feel the need to fill up something huge.
Besides, I've always felt that my antiques were meant to be used, not just sit on a shelf and look pretty. Now, I just need to find some pretty, delicate place mats and napkins and some more delicate silverware to use with them.
Life should have some pretty in it!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go pee off some of that 2 quarts of water I've drunk. *G*
