So how about something other than bitching?

Walmart gave up doing layaway about 5-6 yrs ago. It takes a massive amount of space and manpower hours to make it work and it wasn't paying for itself. Last year they re-instated layaway for the Christmas season and only electronics, toys and jewelry. We began layaway again, a month earlier, this year. It began on Thurs for employees and I think it opens to the public on Sunday. Thursday was co-incidentally not only payday, but the paycheck our quarterly bonus was on. Not a huge bonus, but a nice addition. Almost all of my bonus went toward this beauty: Nikon Coolpix L810. Unfortunately we only carry it in black, which is fine, but the blue or red would have been cool. Maybe next time I'll be able to afford one of the higher end digital cameras. But until then I still have my trusty old non-digital camera with it's selection on lenses and filters.

Hey, you photographers out there! Are you a prolific picture taker? What size memory card do you use? This little Nikon has video capabilities too and I'm trying to decide on a 32 GB card and really splurging on a 64 GB one. Now that I have the new 2 TB storage unit for my computer, space is ultimately not a problem. But I have a rather poor concept of how much storage space 32 GB is when you're talking photos and video. I have a feeling the 32 will be fine. It's not like you can't walk into literally dozens of places within a few miles or practically anywhere and buy more memory if you have to.

Through these summer months I've been something of a voluntary shut-in. Between the scorching heat and just being wrung out from work, I just had no interest in leaving my sanctuary once I got here. I can probably count on one hand the number of times I've left the house in the last 2 months that wasn't going to work. Srly! But with the advent of cooler weather and the anticipation of more help and hopefully less exhaustion (funny thing to say gearing up for inventory and Christmas!) going out isn't seeming such a chore now.

I just made a quick run out to the library, down to the local natural food store and up to Hy-Vee. I love the fact that lately Hy-Vee has been carrying exotic fruits. Too bad most are way too expensive to try when I have no idea what they taste like, but it's nice to contemplate. Last time I almost gave in to the temptation of dragon fruit or, as I've just learned they're also called, pitaya, but at $5 a piece? Too high. Today, I almost succumbed to the Buddha's Hand. Very fragrant! The scent was of a very floral citrus. Quite lovely. But again, at $6.95 apiece without the slightest idea of what to do with it, I had to pass. Another contender for my money is the kiwano or horned melon. This one was probably the most tempting, and at only $4, what a buy! Maybe next time.

Until then, apple season is almost here! I love apples in the fall!
