There really should be a maximum number of stupid people you're expected to deal with in the course of your workday.
My personal favorite?
Lady: Where's the toy department?
Me: (pointing the way) Straight over on the side wall.
Lady: What? Way over there?
After staring at me for a couple of seconds I realized it wasn't a rhetorical question - she really wanted an answer.
Me: (pasting a huge friendly smile on my face) Yep! That's where we keep the wall!
It's amazing what you can say to people if you're smiling and say it in a cheerful tone.
Bill Engvall is a revolutionary in thought. Truly, stupid people should be made to wear signs so that others know not to rely on them for information.
Oh, and the woman who named her little boy Boston was a gem, too. That's right up there with the little girl named Dejeuner (breakfast/lunch in French) and the unfortunately big woman with the moniker Rotunda.
