As is my habit to make sure he's ready when I come to pick him up, I called after my plasma appointment before I headed over there to my brother's.
Not working and being on disability, my brother's schedule often gets twisted around (mine did too at times when I wasn't working).
He'd stayed up nearly 24 hours just so he'd be sure and sleep last night. Well he slept. He slept so hard that when he turned onto his stomach in the night he wasn't aware of it. He has trouble with his back and neck all the time and he really screwed it up.
So the Thanksgiving/birthday (his and mine) are cancelled.
I'll go ahead and prepare my little feast but I'll have leftovers to last me several days and the ladies at work will appreciate the cake and his high carb pumpkin pie that were to be his. I can't leave them sitting around the house for me to scarf (because I certainly would).
I'm a little disappointed but not terribly so. My brother lives on the other side of town. It's a half-hour trip over there. By the time I pick him up then take him back I've spent nearly 2 hours in the car. I'm not terribly shattered to be able to spend that time relaxing.
I went ahead and had brunch when I got home and settled down to the computer only to find that the internet was down. :( So I thought, OK, I'll catch up on the shows that I missed over the last few days and have downloaded, but my computer had no sound. I couldn't take the frustration so I just left the PC alone for a bit, ate my breakfast in peace and watched the last hour of Gone With the Wind.
When I came back the internet was back and upon closer inspection I saw that my computer was running on battery which led me to discover that Phouka had stepped on the on/off switch on the power strip.
The overcast gloom of this morning has given away to sunshine; I have internet and a free day for relaxation. I think I might finally get a start on my john_w_bigbang story. First check in for the story (nothing due at that time) is Dec 15th and rough draft due Feb 15th. If I haven't made a decent start by Dec 15th I'll probably withdraw to save myself aggravation over the holidays.
And here's my public service announcement for writers: Do you know about
Scrivener? If so why haven't you told me! I learned about if from an off comment by
ladyjanelly a few weeks ago. It's a writing program that's been available for Mac for several years and this last year a beta program has been available for Windows. It went on sale on Nov 7th. It's $40 and well worth the price. But even better you can download it for either system for 1 month free. That's one month of actual use not a calender month. There's a 10 minute demo of the program on the site. Go and take a look! I only had the beta version for about a week before the free trial was available and I loved tinkering around in it. I haven't opened my trial since then though because it was too late to begin using it on Bell Book and Candle and I didn't want to distract myself from it.
So that's where I'm headed - Scrivener to begin mapping out my jdm_bigbang.
But maybe a nap first? *G*
