I thought I was done with the a/c for the year but it's hit about 85 outside which would be fine if I'd remembered to shut the blinds on my large, south facing balcony doors by about noon, but I forgot. It's late enough in the year that the sun slants down through the doors really well and has heated up the apartment to almost 90. Sitting in front of a fan and sweating anyway is not a good combination with my pampered self. Luckily I'll only have to have it on for a couple of hours. By 7 or 8 it'll be cool enough to open up again.
The hummingbirds are still here - well at least 2 of them are. That stinking squirrel is still visiting the bird feeder and wiping it out. I'm going to have to resort to only putting the bird feeder up while I'm here to supervise. Or maybe I'll be beneficent (woo-hoo! breaking out the 50 cent words) and buy some dried corn-on-the-cob for the little shit. They do usually amuse me.
No small game hunting for the Phoukster today. I did think about letting him loose on that squirrel when Phouka was crouching under the a/c unit today and the little flirty tailed idiot nearly followed a line of spilled sunflower seeds down into striking range. But then I thought about having to clean up massacred squirrel and decided to be BENEFICENT! *G*
The back is feeling better today. I still had a relatively uncomfortable night's sleep and it still lets me know that it's not totally happy, but it's getting there.
The plasma place is having a drawing for 4 different prizes. For every visit (I'm not sure how long it'll be going) you can have a chance to win either an iPod, $100 gift cert, a portable DVD player or a Vizio Tablet. Woo-hoo! Vizio Tablet! It seems to be the most popular choice, though not by a lot.
Passing on a couple of tidbits:
khaleesian has posted a new story that she wrote for
blackmeow. It's an X-Men First Class, Charles/Erik, Viking AU -
Beloved of Ravens. Not in the fandom? Well neither am I really, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the hell out of a really good piece of writing. Anything khal writes is worth a read. Do read her notes containing the warnings at the beginning, though. You don't need to know anything about the X-Men verse although the basics will help a little.
Passing on a bit from
dine: The author Diane Duane is having a one day only 50% off of her eBooks today. The Door into Fire, the first of the Tale of the Five trilogy is one of my all time favorite scifi novels. It's been years since I read it so I think I'll indulge. Details are
here.
Now...back to writing. It's not going nearly fast enough considering there's less than 3 weeks until the rough draft is due.
How's your fall (or your spring! for those of you down under) going so far?
