Posting twice in one day just because I can...

OMG I'm having so much fun!

Almost as much as I've missed keeping in touch with all of you, I've missed the ability to just cruise for random knowledge. I know I've mentioned this before but I've always - periodically - glommed onto a particular thought or idea and just exhaustively researched all the little bits of information I could find that subject. I think one of the earliest all out searches I can remember was after I watched the old movies 'Wake of the Red Witch' and 'The Wreck of the Mary Deare' in the same week and just had to know everything there was to know about deep sea salvage. Back then it was mostly the encyclopedia and whatever random books I could come up with at the library. Now! The internet! Unfortunately if you're serious about finding the actual facts you have to deep quite deep because damn near every article I pull up about the Polish Renaissance quotes Wikipedia. And we know how accurate that can be. Sometimes it's spot on, and sometimes you might as well be sifting through a book of old wives' tales. The problem is, unless you already know about the subject, you can't spot the gold from the dross.

Why the Polish Renaissance? Well, as is so often the case, whenever I watch a movie, particularly an older one, my mind seems to translate it into a J2 (or J3) story plot. I never seem to get far in writing the actual story but I have a hell of a lot of fun running down the facts for the plot. *G* This particular remix idea came after watching the 1980s Rutger Hauer movie 'Flesh & Blood', set in 1520 in some unspecified European country. My mind went to Renaissance era Poland because of the name Padalecki (incidentally, it's damn hard to find an origin for the name, I'm just assuming) and because most of my historical knowledge ends with the High Middle Ages (about 100 years before the time I'm looking at) and doesn't pick up again until the mid-1800s in the American Old West. What knowledge I have of the Renaissance is confined to Italy and England. Well, and tidbits on Japan from when I was inte3rested after the release of the TV mini-series Shogun.

Not that I'm exclusively stuck on J2 AUs. My first was a 12th century Fast & Furious AU set in Andalusia (the Moorish/Hispanic contested region of Spain at the time), and there's an 1840s F&F set during the Maya rebellion of the Yucatan. There are also notes for a Sentinel remix of The Time Machine (the remake), but by far, most of the ideas are for CWRPS movie remakes (plus a couple of SPN Dean/Sam ones).

I just wish I could get my ass in gear and finish something. But y'know, with the return of my internet privileges I'm feeling a renewed interest in writing. I'm sure that the upcoming Escapades and finally being able the rub up against (that's mostly a metaphor guys - mostly) has nothing to do with it. Right? *G*

writing, shiny new laptop!, internet, research
