Last week the fact that there were Dollhouse episodes (2 of them) took me totally by surprise because I knew that it had been canceled. So I downloaded both episodes and promptly forgot about them. Until last night when I saw that there were 2 more eps. So I downloaded those this morning and just finished watching all 4 of them.
I can't believe they've canceled the show just when it's getting so good! Fortunately it looks like Whedon and Dushku are trying for some kind of finish to the show instead of just leaving it hanging. At least I hope so.
I know a lot of people had trouble with the concept of the dollhouse - calling it a show about slavery and prostitution - but I think a lot of those people missed the point that even from the start this wasn't touted as something good. That almost the whole show has been an exercise in how to bring the dollhouse down.
Yes, a lot of the first half of S1 were simply shows about sending the dolls into demeaning and dangerous situations but I believe it was just a set up to understand the complexity of the situation and the characters. Because even the good guys aren't all white and the bad guys aren't all dark. Mostly everyone is varying shades of gray.
I'm really going to miss this show when it's gone.
Actually I see that the ratings are up quite a bit, so I suppose there's always an outside chance that the show could be saved. I won't hold my breath though.
Incidentally? I still want to see Brian O'Connor made into a doll. *G*
