The jury is still really out on whether I continue to watch this show.
Some parts of the show are fascinating, but that isn't enough. It's harder and grittier than the other 2 Stargate offerings and part of me likes that. But is it enough?
I know that this is still the first day or so for our new intrepid explorers and that they're under enormous pressure and threat of immediately death, but I'm seeing damn little 'grace under pressure'. Until the last 10 minutes of tonight's episode I didn't give a damn about what happened to any of the characters. Well, maybe the medic - blond female, don't remember her name - but that's certainly not enough to hang a show on.
I like Robert Carlyle, but his character is a self important, uncommunicative asshole. Wunderkind Eli, for the most part, acts like the immature snot that he is. The Lt...eh...very wishy-washy. The black soldier, Greer, is a reactive asshole and a bully - but actually, that's mostly towards Rush (Carlyle's character). The senator's daughter irritates me too, but not as much as the others. Unfortunately these characters are in the forefront.
But then, in the last 10 minutes, everyone did something that seemed to redeem them a little. I began to care a little.
There's a whole plethora of characters of course, and I'm sure they'll be rotating them through, but if they don't give me someone (preferably one than a single someone) to give a shit about in the next episode, I'm probably going to write the show off as not worth the viewing time.
