impressiveness

I think when the dust settles, 52 will be the best thing by far to come out of the whole Infinite Crisis extended multi-event. I haven't always loved every minute of every storyline, but all of the storylines have interested me at least part of the time, and there's never been a week when nothing in the book was interesting at all. The artwork, while not as groundbreaking as the plotting and structure of the series, has been consistently good. And it's easy to follow (in terms of purchasing). No concurrent lead-in minis with tie-ins scattered all over the DCU. No need to backfill a regular title's recent storylines just to figure out what's going on. It's all here. You don't really even need to have read Infinite Crisis, since the major effects are pretty clear from the early issues. And having it be one title allows it to contain stories that wouldn't carry a mini-series on their own. I'm just really impressed, and wish there was some way to continue the structure or use it for the next big event instead of tangling the main books up in a big mess.

[for those who don't know, 52 is a real-time weekly series running for a year (kind of like the tv show 24). It covers events during the year right after Infinite Crisis, which all of DC's other titles skipped. Also, the big characters, (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, etc.) are all absent or playing minimal parts for various reasons, so less prominent characters are getting lots of on-panel time.]
