Queen of the Good Night

So I hear Whitney Houston has died and that this isn't a prank Twitter trend.

In today's 24-hour news cycle, cable news channels, the internet, and social media, I'm more focused on the meta than the details of her death.

I want to know what the first infographic of Twitter trends in different parts of the world for the next 24 hours looks like. I want to know what SNL is doing tonight given that Houston's been a past guest. Will we see the Molly Shannon/Mary Catherine Gallagher sketch? I REALLY want to know what SNL will do next week given that Maya Rudolph is hosting next week.

What I'm not interested in is the stream of YouTube videos posted on my Facebook feed.

That said, I'll do my part to contribute to the ethos. I sang "The Greatest Love of All" for a talent show my freshman year.

On to tonight's SNL which is Zooey Deschanel. I wonder if they'll show the Whitney Houston/Molly Shannon Mary Catherine Gallagher sketch with Rosie O'Donnell. Dare we hope for a Joseph Gordon Levitt cameo?

So I can't tell if the dog barking was a part of the cold open or not. Something about Sudekis' delivery makes me think not.

Wow, Zooey looking a little heavy on the spray tan there. Oh look, Zooey/ukele OTP!

Nice little The Artist nod and actually warrants the Les Jejunes de Paris sketch before Weekend Update, unlike where it usually is.

NBC broke the new of Whitney Houston's death at 12:03 during SNL with Lester Holt? It broke online almost 6 hours ago. What Holt he even doing up? He has to be at work in like 4 hours.

Honestly, all week I thought the Karmin chick in the promos was Nasim Pedrad with an exaggerated victory curl.

A rather lackluster Weekend Update this week. I expected a CPAC joke and something stronger on the Super Bowl.

Dude, they totally should have done a Miley Cyrus/Zooey Deschanel tv show skit. In other news, Wiig's looking her age next to Abby Elliot and Zooey Deschanel. While pitched a little high, there's something about Taran Killam's Michael Cera that rings true.

Really SNL? You could have dumped the Technology Hump sketch and second Karmin song to show a Whitney Houston performance or sketch. Though you get credit for finding a Nintendo Duck Hunt gun and a pager in 2012.

I'm still not convinced that Karmin isn't some elaborate joke by Lorne Michaels with Nasim Pedrad.
