Title: Absence
Pairing: Slightly Twins/Haruhi
Rating: G
Summary: Haruhi kicks the twins out of her home during one of their visits.
It had become part of their routine and they hardly noticed.
Every Saturday afternoon, the twins would drop by and whisk her away. Sometimes they took her to the zoo, often to their home but mostly they spent it in the ice cream shop situated two blocks away from Haruhi’s home.
She would say that she still had chores to finish and books to read then comment on how they had no regard for her schedule and her personal space until she resigned herself to her fate, knowing there was no way to talk the two out of anything they thought up. In that respect, she thought them to be like Tamaki.
Haruhi sighed. Today was supposed to be a day off from their weekly exploits. Exam week was drawing near and she hadn’t had enough time to study since most of it went to the host club and the remaining hours were spent doing chores at home.
She looked at the two identical men sitting in front of her reading their lectures loudly. “No” must be a word that wasn’t included in their vocabulary as well as “Leave” because she used both words when they knocked on her door an hour earlier, their books in tow asking if they can study with her, but they still went in anyway.
Rich bastards. She muttered and went back to reading her notes.
“Haruhi, can you make us some tea.” Hikaru handed her a bag of tea that was imported from Africa. She felt a sense of déjà vu and couldn’t help but smile. She went to the kitchen to prepare the tea and remembered that it needed milk.
She straightened up after taking the carton of milk from the refrigerator. Before she could turn around and walk back to the kitchen counter where the tea cups sat, she felt an arm snake around her waist and a chin rest on her shoulders.
“Could you two move? I need to finish making tea so I could get back to studying.” The two complied.
Haruhi walked back to the counter and poured milk on the tea, making sure that Kaoru’s cup had less milk than Hikaru’s. Kaoru was taking out a plate and when Haruhi looked at him to see what he needed a plate for, he held up a box of cookies and smiled. Hikaru on the other hand was inspecting the contents of Haruhi’s cupboards.
“Oi, Haruhi, you have maple syrup in here? He asked as he opened the last cupboard.
“I don’t.”
“How about we go to the supermarket and get some?”
Can you not be so carefree? She sighed. She still had to study and that reason would not be enough to convince Hikaru to not go. So she told him that the tea would grow cold and the cookies wouldn’t be as delicious if they went now. Hikaru seemed to agree with that reasoning and so they ate their little snack, the twins chatter fading into the background and they continued to study in relative peace. That is, until the twins’ crazy antics led Hikaru to fall on top of Kaoru whose elbow hit his tea cup spilling liquid on Haruhi’s notes.
She stood up abruptly.
“That’s it you two!” Her voice sounding a little louder and high pitched than usual. She was trying so hard to control her temper but she was already frustrated at having the twins use up what little time she has left to study. And now her notes where covered in tea, the words were blurred and barely decipherable.
They were apologizing profusely, promising not to spill tea again as she kicked them out of her home. When she closed the door, she was relieved. Finally she can study.
She cleaned up the mess that the twins made, tore the pages of her notebook that were soaked in tea and threw them into the trash can. They were no use now. She moved to her room and sat down on her desk to study, taking the plate of cookies with her.
After solving a couple of equations from her math book, she took a bite from the cookie.
“This is the most delicious cookie I’ve ever tasted Hikaru, Kao-” she was unable to finish her sentence when she realized that she was talking to no one.
A week later, the twins did not show up at her house. It was already half past two and she was already finished with the chores she had scheduled for the day but they still weren’t there. Four in the afternoon and still no sign of the mischief makers.
She told herself that it was good to have more free time. She spent it reading one of the books she’s been meaning to finish.
The next week was the same and the week after that.
She had run out of things to do during Saturday afternoons and found herself looking every so often at the door waiting for someone to knock. It went on until she felt silly for not doing anything.
She took out her cellphone and dialed the twin’s number.
“Haruhi?” the voice on the other end sounded softer, a little less rough than the his twins, this was Kaoru.
“What do you want?” another voice cut in. The twins must have put her on speakerphone.
“I’m sorry for kicking you guys out when you spilled the tea.”
“I didn’t spill it, Kaoru did. Ouch.” Their voices became a little faint and she assumed that the twins distanced the receiver from them. They seem to be discussing something.
“It doesn’t matter who spilled it. You guys can come over again.” She said, lowering the volume of her voice just a little.
“Eh? Really Haruhi?”
“As long as you bring those cookies you brought the last time.”
“You were right. She really is gluttonous Hikaru.” She was still on the phone and they were talking about her like she wasn’t listening.
Rich bastards. She said as she hung up on the twins.

The twins hung up their phone and clapped their hands together.
“Yay! Operation Get Haruhi to Apologize and Invite Us Back is a success.” They exclaimed in unison.
