A Graceful Passing

Aunty is struttin’ in Heaven now

yeah, struttin’

on new legs

new legs

Just like the time before

when she strode the Earth atop umber stilts

back when she danced and swayed

in those sparkling garments of the disco era

she was aglow

she was aglow

and the stars envied her mortal grace

Back when she posed with legs crossed

hand under chin

pivoting her ambling glance

slightly away from the camera

knowing the eyes would be too much

Back before her illness

sucked muscle from bone

rendering her once lithe limbs useless

her earthly home a prison for a joyous and fluid soul

My mother said she struggled little

when her final breaths ordered their ranks

As the last of those breaths past through her lips

it carried with it an “I love you”

that drifted faintly to the ears

of all her love ones

family, death
