Closing Bonus , What’s the facts?

Jul 31, 2011 18:36

Liquidators will promise the world to try to get people to
not quit but what’s the real story about the closing bonus? From any stores that closed how much did you
receive, was it 2 weeks pay? 1 week pay?

Was it taxed into a smaller amount that you expected?

Did the liquidator make any other promises to keep people
from not quitting?

If you left before you were released, you wouldn't get unemployment. No references would be allowed. You'd be kept on, but wouldn't get any hours but still would not be released. If you left for other employment, your new employer would be told you were not eligible for retire (you'd been fired, and lied to your new employer about it). That's not all, but certainly enough to show the pattern.
As stated, threatened, but not followed through.

That's re-hire, not retire.

If you wilfully separate from the company, you won't get unemployment, but it doesn't mean your employer won't be available for a reference. However, I knew people who gave their 2 weeks notice who were denied hours by the liquidator, but only because life goes on and there are so many others who are clamoring for hours! It's only fair to the people left behind who have to deal with this harrowing situation. Anyone who's reasonable and not completely self-absorbed will understand that.

The THREAT was that those things would happen. I found something before the end and surrendered my hours. I WAS threatened with a call to my new employer if I didn't return. I pointed out that was illegal and would end up in court. Not all of the liquidated are jerks, mine was.

Unemployment laws very from state to state.

Willfully lying about an employee's performance is illegal, period. It's hard to catch, though.
