"So just to be clear, droid baby means it's a robot, right?" Miley checked as she came in, still looking at her phone. "Because a guy like that totally shouldn't be allowed to -- oh. Yep. That's a robot."

So astute, this one.

"Fortunately, I don't think any teacher here is crazy enough to leave Topher with a real baby," Dave said. "Well, maybe Mr Madrox. But that might be going too far even for him."

"Who?"

Meanwhile she was inspecting the droid baby. It was crying. Somehow this made it much less cute.

"He teaches a class about how he's insane and he's trying to drive us to be as insane as him," Dave explained. "He did something with sockpuppets yesterday. It was weird."

"Oooh! Sockpuppets can be cute!" Miley said optimistically. "Did they sing at all? It'd be totally cute if they sang."

"He had a sockpuppet version of me cut off another sockpuppet's wings because my sock was given decaffeinated coffee," Dave said. "But yeah, there was some singing, too."

"...oh." Violent sockpuppets. That was new. "Um. Well. Were they good songs, at least?"

No. No, Miley, they were not.

"No, not really," Dave said. "But that was yesterday. Next week will be something new."

Miley gingerly patted the screaming baby. It made no difference.

"Like what?" she asked loudly over droid-screaming.

"I have no idea. But we've done everything from licking doorknobs to throwing copies of Mr Madrox at pigs," Dave said. "I'm actually kind of surprised he's not the one who gave the babies."

"Yeah, so, um, that was my next question," Miley decided. "Where did he get the baby? 'Cause if you tell me he made it himself, I'm gonna be impressed and scared."

"Oh, no. Ethics class," Dave said. "I'm pretty sure the teacher is trying to figure out how ethical his students' roommates are based on whether or not the babies get shoved in a closet for a week."

Actually, Topher was the one who had done that part.

"...is that what he did?! But it's just a widdle baby! It's all -- sad!"

Miley plucked up the baby, tossed it in the air and caught it, trying to cheer it up.

It threw up on her face.

"No," Dave said, incorrectly. He stepped back as the droid threw up. "He just left it on my bed."

"Need something to clean yourself up?"

"Yes, please."

Miley was no longer fond of children.

"Just go ahead and put the baby on his pillow," Dave said, pointing as he went into his dresser for a towel. "He deserves some robot vomit on it."

Dave retrieved a towel and held it out. "Here you go. And I'm sorry about that."
