Sybil knew she was late meeting Sam, and felt very badly about it, but somehow couldn't fret the way she otherwise might have. For starters, she was very, very tired. She did not go around the alley way as usual, but went through the Pseudopolis house, sending the servants away from her with short, polite commands, and walked out the back way. She crossed to the tiny unused servant's door in the back that led to where they usually met, wedged between carriage houses and out of sight, and where she knew Sam would be waiting.
She didn't know if he would have heard yet, or not. News spread quickly among the upper classes- her aunt was already set to travel in the day after tomorrow from Quirm. Sybil was already in black. She closed the door behind her, and turned to Sam's shadow and said, "I'm sorry."
