In Town, at the H. Estate

Jan 04, 2006 20:24

Later in the evening, Lilly arrives home from her day on campus. The Huntzberger Estate is freakishly silent. What was once a house with five roommates, bustling with life, is now empty. Upon arriving at the house, she sent the few staff members still on the grounds home. She didn't need them, and she was the only one left.

Grabbing a drink from the fridge, she grabs a piece of paper and a pen, and sprawls out onto one of the enormous, sectional couches. She idly wonders what other_logan's family was going to do with the place, but decides she doesn't really care. She begins to write.

Dear Weevil,
I know it's silly for me to write you a letter that I have no intentions of ever sending, but you always were pretty good about indulging my whims.

My roommate Allie called me this morning. You'd like her, I think. Boggle at her naivete, but appreciate it nonetheless.
[Phone conversation played with allie_cameron by e-mail today.]

Lilly is camped out on her couch at the Huntzberger Estate in the morning, fixing her make-up in a small compact and looking a little annoyed when her phone rings. Looking at the Caller ID, her expression quickly changes into a smile.

"Allie, girl! How's home? I miss you, you need to come back and save me ASAP."

"Hey, Lilly. I'll be back tomorrow. Um, we have a slight problem though."

Lilly sits up straight, obviously concerned. "Slight problem? What's up, sweetie? Are you okay?"

"I'm fine. But Logan isn't coming back to Fandom High, so we're going to have to move out of the house."

"Wait," Lilly interjects quickly. "Did you guys break up?"

Allie pauses. "Well, yeah, I mean, long distance relationships never work, right? His dad pulled him out of school and is sending him somewhere else," she says in a rush.

"No, I guess they don't." Lilly fumbles a little, because the tried and true method of blame the guy because he's an asshole probably won't work here.

"I'm sorry. How are you doing?" she asks gently.

"Better than I thought I would be," Allie admits. "My dad was kind of mad when he found out I was sharing a house with a boy anyway and he wanted me to move into the dorms when I got back."

"Don't worry about it," Lilly replies quickly and firmly. "I'll take care of it. I know how to make friends and influence people. I think it's a good idea to move into the dorms anyway. Not that I don't enjoy good maid service, but there are some things I want to keep an eye on."

"Really? It would be so great if we could be roommates. I kind of spent all my time with Logan last semester."

"I wouldn't dream of living with any one else," Lilly says reassuringly. "I'll find some movers too, and have them bring over our stuff as soon as we get a room assignment, so you don't have to stress about it with everything else on your plate. And when you get back, we'll go to that karaoke bar in town or something and you won't even remember Logan's name by the end of the night. Promise."

Allie smiles, even though Lilly can't see her. "That sounds like fun. And Logan said that if we let him know where we're moving, he'll have our stuff taken care of. But I guess I'll see you at the house tomorrow when I get back to town."

"Of course. I'll be here. Do you know when you'll be getting back? I could come pick you up or something. Logan probably has a golf cart I could steal and roll down to the edge of the island," Lilly says mischievously.

"I should be getting in around 6," Allie says with a giggle.

"Perfect. I'm going to campus to take care of our living situation, then. Take care of yourself, call me if you need anything, and I'll pick you up at 6. When you get in we'll run back to the Huntzberger Estate, steal anything else that isn't nailed down that we want, and get settled in our new casa. Okay?"

"Sounds like a plan," Allie says, infected by Lilly's enthusiasm. "Call me and let me know where we're living and I'll see you tomorrow!"

"Will do. Have a good day, Al. And buy me something ugly from a truck stop on your way down. Bye."

So, I went down to the dorms to get us a new place to live. Ran into a guy named Marty who was baking the most heinous cupcakes in history. Not that I could do any better. You know I can't even scramble eggs. And I swung by this guy John's room, and now I may be starting a sorority. If you knew how funny that was, considering what the sorority girls at UC Neptune thought of me, you'd be laughing right now. Or trying not to laugh and failing miserably.

Then I ran into imac_kenzie, you know who she is I'm sure. I almost asked her how you were doing, but didn't. It doesn't seem fair to know what you are doing, when you don't even know I'm... around. It seems a little wrong, even for me, to fuck you over from the grave.

Anyway, yeah, I got us our new room and the movers are coming tomorrow. I pick Allie up at six, and then school begins again. And life goes on. Or whatever it is.

I just miss you, I guess that's stupid.

Somewhat disgusted with herself, Lilly balls up the paper and throws it in the fireplace. Curled up in the cushions with her semi-alcoholic drink, she sits in silence, listening to the sounds of the house.

[Anyone can feel free to come knock on the door in town (hell she might give you a free couch), but I have somehow made Lilly emo so there's that. Is this when I blame Rory?]

seriously?, emo lilly?
