Sleep.
What he needed was sleep.
He might’ve woken up later than most at CTU, but a bedtime was a bedtime, whether it was ten at night or seven in the morning. Sleep didn’t come easy for Tony, regardless if he had spent the night drinking, having sex or arguing. That’s why he needed the sleeping pills, of course, but he hadn’t taken them that night and he hadn’t slept enough to have a lead on all the other bleary-eyed agents of CTU. Indeed, after he and Michelle had finished debriefing at CTU Tony had been up for 24 hours.
That didn’t stop Michelle from asking him to drive her back home. Granted, she had been up longer than he had-he’d only woken up at noon the previous day-but the stale coffee did not keep him from feeling as if he were living in the fog of San Francisco. San Francisco…my sister…was any of that real or…?
He should call his sister when he’s gotten enough sleep. Bartending at San Francisco…and Milliways…it happened but it contradicts what I’ve just gone through…
…she said we’d have to separate. It was necessary…but the time…Sleep. What he needs is sleep, and lots of it, in large, heaping quantities, without the intrusion of a phone or loud explosions or werewolves…
Michelle is giving him orders with her hand as a guide. Not pointing, she gently touches him on the arm to alert him to take the next right, then drive straight to the light and make another right, then a left…Division needs to invest in better coffee.
He blinks a few times and makes a left into the residential concave of townhouses…Michelle really made it big, didn’t she? A Mercedes Benz, diamond earrings, the suit didn’t look cheap…and he was asking her to leave that all? A few years ago he was considering rejecting an offer at Langley because they didn’t have a job for her there. Where are we gonna go after this?
He pulls into the driveway in front of Michelle’s house and parks. He doesn’t immediately leave the car; instead he looks at Michelle.
Perhaps he’s waiting for her to dismiss him.
