In the Library

For the first time in her life, Hermione was in the library wishing she could be somewhere else entirely. Granted, she didn’t actually have to be in there at all, but Professor Binns had given them an optional extra credit essay on wand-lore and she was never one to turn down extra credit.

One hour into researching for the essay and she was ready to give up. The whole subject was more lore than history and there were at least ten wizards who claimed that they were the first to make and use a wand. To make matters even worse, none of the stories (or theories) were really that interesting or informative.

And honestly, when would she ever need to be a wand-lore expert?

She looked up from her book when Ron, who was sitting across from her at the table, coughed.

Her heart flipped a little as she studied him, inwardly swooning at the way the sunlight from the large windows was lighting up his gorgeous locks. She longed to run her fingers through his hair, especially now that he was leech, err Lavender, free.

Shaking away those thoughts, her eyes traveled down to the piece of parchment in front of Ron. On their own accord, her eyes settled on his hands; his large, strong and manly hands.

You know what they say about guys with large hands, her brain teased. They have really big… wands! She felt her face heat up as her next thought was about Ron’s wand.

She cleared her throat, trying to clear her head, but nearly forgot how to breathe when Ron’s head popped up.

“You alright, Hermione?” He asked, concern crossing his too-handsome-for-her-own-good face.

“I- I’m fine,” she stammered.

“You sure?” He frowned. “You’re all red and stuff.”

“Fine, really,” she insisted. “How’s your essay coming along?”

She let out a slow breath as he began to talk about his essay.

It had been exactly a week since Harry and Ginny’s very public first kiss and, with the pair of them off doing who knows what, she found herself almost always in Ron’s company. Not that she minded. It was quite the opposite, actually.

After months of not talking to him at all, she enjoyed the one on one time with him. She just wished it was doing something more interesting than writing extra credit essays on wand-lore so she had a reason to go to the library with him.

More than once, she wished she could find the courage to tell him that she fancied him, but having just got his friendship back, she didn’t want to risk losing him again. Even if there was a chance that he might feel the same way about her.

“Do you think ol’ Sluggie will pass it?” Ron’s far away voice broke into her thoughts.

Hermione blinked, realizing that she hadn’t heard a word of what Ron had said.

“Uh huh,” she nodded, hoping that he wouldn’t ask any more questions.

“Excellent,” he said, grinning. “Will you look over it for me when I’ve finished?”

“Of course,” she replied.

She let out an inward sigh of relief. That was close; too close.

Taking a breath, she turned her attention back to her essay; or at least tired to. Her eyes, though, would not leave Ron’s face and she nearly fell out of her chair when he licked his lips with his tongue.

Oh Merlin! Her mind screamed and she forced her eyes downwards.

She closed her eyes, trying to compose herself, but instead found a replay of his tongue swiping across his lips. Oh how she wished that had been her tongue or his tongue on her lips. His hands on her body.

She knew she wasn’t going to get any work done now; not with her nighttime fantasies swimming through her brain.

Her last thought before letting herself be swept away by thoughts of Ron’s wand was that she would never need to be an expert on wand-lore.
