That's such an official sounding title - and all it means is that I can't come up with anything more entertaining/clever/original.
We're entering an interesting time in Universityville, at least in my department. For those of you who don't have large-university experience (like me), the University is made up of 7 or so colleges; each college has its own Dean, and every department is part of a college. For example, History is, unsurprisingly, in the College of Liberal Arts (CLA), along with English, Foreign Languages, Music, those sorts of things. The College of Science has Zoology, Biology, lots of other -ologies...you get the idea. Anyway, the Dean of CLA announced several months ago that she would be retiring at the end of this year, and a search committee was formed to find a new Dean. Yesterday, the University Provost announced that the search would be cancelled, and an interim Dean would be selected. He ascribed it to the uncertainty of the OSU budget - but nothing has changed substantially in the last few months, so no one's really falling for that banana in the tailpipe. Of course, rumors abound, protests are already beginning, and there are LOTS of pissed profs today. The debate will continue, and it's going to be interesting to see who wins, the administration (who reportedly want to gut most of the CLA departments) or the faculty. It's times like this I'm glad to be a lowly classified staff member.
The last 3 performances of Charlie Brown begin tonight - thank god. I've really enjoyed the cast and crew of this show, but I'm DONE with the show itself. Musicals are a lot of work with a cast of 20-30, they're even more work with a cast of 6! No character in the show has more than a minute or two offstage; in Snoopy's case, she's on stage the whole show. To be "on" for 2 hours, with no respite, is hard, and when you add in singing and dancing.....yeah, I'm done. Several of my friends have started complaining they never see me anymore, and SCA event season is coming up, so it's about time for me to be done.
Speaking of event season...
I've GOT to get started on my tent. See, here's the deal - my household tries to be as period as possible, which means that we don't just put up a traditional tent (or "ground pimple"); our tents look like this - the tent right behind me. I've always shared my friend Pat's tent with her, so I didn't need one. But now that Bruce wants to come with me, I've got to have my own tent for the two of us. So I've got to get sewing. I need it by July, and I might make it. Actually, I'd better make it, or we'll be sleeping in the little round tent, and that's way too small for me & all my stuff! Oh, and Bruce too. :)
Well, it's time to take off - a few errands, then the theater. *Sigh*.....only 3 more.....
