It's been a while since I updated this thing, so here are the main bits of information going on in my life.
- I have a job! Starting September, I'll be on the Nationwide Management Development Programme. 700 people applied, 150 got an interview, 50 people went to the assessment centre, and I got one of 22 places on the programme. So I'm pretty pleased. I'll be making £22k ($43k) a year as well, so that's a bit special.
There's three different placements each of eight months in different areas of the business. Consequently, I'll be moving come September and then a couple more times. Where I'll be moving to, I have no idea yet. Could be anywhere in the UK, including Northern Ireland. I'd prefer not to go to NI, because you have to go back to head office in Swindon every month or so, and that's a big ass carbon footprint. But eeh, very exciting.
- I am writing my dissertation! This is a big ass essay, around ten thousand words, that rounds off my university career. My entirely too pretentious title is thus: "What Does A Scanner See: Postmodernity and Representations of Reality in American Cinema". The first part is a line from A Scanner Darkly, which is one of the films I'm looking at, along with Fight Club, Twelve Monkeys and Seven, as well as a few others. I've done 10% of the damn thing, and I need to do about two thousand words tomorrow. It's not due until April 30th, so I've got loads of time. And hey, it's actually fairly interesting looking at how dystopias, utopias and alternate realities are presented in film. There's a lot to talk about, anyway.
- Hot Fuzz is the best movie of the last twelve months, and I urge you all to go see it. I've seen it twice, and I could do with seeing it a few more times.
- If you haven't downloaded my awesome eighties compilation, head on over and do that, because it's great. Otherwise, I'm listening to Ronson, Kenna, the new Maximo Park album, and some old-school David Bowie. Which is just super!
- Because I, as mentioned above, I am awesome, I got myself a sweet bluetooth headset for my mobile telephone. But not just any headset. Oh no. I got the one they used in 24, and that just makes me super cool. Making phone calls without hands! Unearthly.
That's pretty much it. I'll let you know if anything changes.
