Media Roundup - Most Anticipated in 2013!

Dec 31, 2012 14:07

Thanks you to everyone for sticking with these posts thus far! Here at ivynights central, we're closing... I have no idea why I'm typing in the plural. Let's be real- it's just little ole me. Anyhoo - I'm closing out the week with my top books, movies, and TV shows I'm most looking forward to in 2013! Fingers crossed that they won't disappoint.

Books

Books that are uber buzzed about rarely fulfill expectations but I hope this one, inspired by The Island of Dr. Moreau, lives up to its rep

I've never read Sepetys' previous work Between Shades of Grey (Not to be confused with 50SoG) but I've heard so many good things about it. This one, set in New Orleans, may be the one that lures me in.

Because hell yes I need another helping of the most adorable series in the world.
  • A Corner of White The Colors of Madeline #1) y Jaclyn Moriarty. US pub. date - sometime in April.

If you haven't already read all of Moriarty's previously released books, you are seriously missing out. I'm intrigued to see how she'll handle the genre expansion.

I must know what happens next to Jazz! I cannot wait for this book! Ah
  • The Coldest Girl in Coldtown y Holly Black. Pub'd September 1.

While I was mixed on Black's work before, after loving the Curseworkers series this year, I'm totally on board to checking out what she's got coming next.

Movies

Hitchcockian pseudo incest and murder set to awesome music and a great aesthetic vibe.

It! feels! like! we've! been! waiting! forever!

Magicians. FBI. I love the cast and the premise; it's the execution I'm worried about. We'll see
  • Frozen Released November 27.

The latest in the Disney princess genre.

And the special movie ---> book section. There are a ton of these coming out this year, but I'm just spotlighting a few.

Actually haven't read the novel yet but it's high on my TBR list. Trailer looks fun, Zombieland quality
  • The Host Released March 29th.

Feel free to give me all the shit you want but, although I have a few major caveats about it, overall I quite enjoyed this book, especially the setting in the caves/desert. The premise is pretty brilliant, if I dislike some characterization choices
  • Ender's Game Released November 1.

No trailer yet but Asa Butterfield and Hailee Steinfeld signify good prospects.
  • Catching Fire Released November 22.

Because Johanna's my favorite & I need to see her in motion.

TV:

Three new series that I'm looking forward to checking out...

I've heard this described as Revenge meets Veronica Mars. Of course I'm gonna be there
  • Cult S1 premieres February 19.

Jo Harvelle! Alaric! Other people! Murder! The TV industry! Creepy things!

I was uber dubious about this but that trailer looks kind of great? We'll see.

And the usual suspects I'm particular excited to see return...

LANAAAAAAAAA!

Will Winte finally ome? There's only one way to find out...
  • Sherlock S3 premieres who knows when.

Because the word "Reichenbach" still makes fandom collectively reach for their tissue boxes.
  • Luther S3 premieres who knows when. (I sense a theme with the BBC).

Fingers AND toes crossed for more Alice.
  • The Borgias S3 premieres who knows when.

I miss Cesare and Lucrezia's codependence on my tv screen.
Honorable mention The Hour. Series three hasn't been commissioned (yet) but it had BETTER BE. D:

What are you all looking forward to? :)
