I can't imagine how exciting and scary it must be to be coming over here to start Uni!
I'd say that if you can, opening a bank account over here might be a good idea. It might make things a bit easier for you. And also (although I don't know how this applies to foreign students) if you set up a student account then they usually give you something as an incentive. A lot of them offer a student railcard, which might be good if you're going to travel by train and explore a bit.
Scottish history sounds like it'll be an interesting module. I'm all excited for you, hope it goes well.
I don't know about practical or academic tips (although if you have any specific questions I might be able to help) but I can give you some advice on the social side of things. Go out! Really, that's so important. Meet lots of people - that's usually what fresher's week is for - and I'm sure you'll make some good friends. Just try everything to start with, it's really fun and you do get to meet such a range of people. Also, if there are any societies or clubs that you want to join, I recommend it. I always regretted not joining any in the first year.
And take advantage of student discount! When you enrol, you should get student ID and/or an NUS card. I don't know quite how it works anymore, but I'm sure you'll get to find out. Loads of shops and restaurants offer student discount if you show the card. And even if they don't advertise a discount, sometimes it's still worth asking.
I think I've babbled lots and not said much here. Sorry, I don't know if I've been helpful!

And thanks, I don't think I will have problems going out, but I do need an extra push sometimes, I will have to bury the shy side of me!
I'll try to get some tips and consider the bank account. IF I discover that I need it, I'll open one..
thanks, your the best!!
