STICK WITH ME, YOUNG PADAWAN. I WILL BE YOUR QUI GON IVY TO YOUR SHINYWAN KENOPAL.
J/k. Honestly, I don't normally go off about it's useage. I ranted in favor of it's use in that Ben Stiller movie (the name escapes me for now), but that was because they were using it in conversation to refer to the ACTUAL MEDICAL CONDITION. This? NOT SO MUCH.
90% of the time when I see it used online it's by douchebags, it's got to be said. I can't comment about medical usage, but I've seen enough people getting seriously upset by it being used that I have an automatic "NO" reaction to it.
It's still used as a medical term. The official diagnosis they gave Nick is "severe mental retardation - encephalopathy". Encephalopathy is a big word for "We don't know what this is or what caused it". He's one symptom from a diagnosis of autism - he's got inexplicable constant muscle twitching. That's it. If he didn't have that, he'd be officially diagnosed "autistic". It's just easier to say "autism" when people ask. The twitching is inconsequential to his behaviour and mental capabilities.
Seeing it used out of context in any way ticks me off, but I don't normally speak up until someone else has and been shut down by derailment or outright willfulness. Obviously, once that's occurred, I have NO PROBLEM speaking my mind. LOL
LOL I'm actually still pretty hot under the collar. Enough to be completely blowing off other responsibilities right now. I need to find my zen or I'm likely to put things away and not find them when I need them. XD
I hate arguing over the internet, but the responses you got were so mindblowingly and willfully obtuse, I had to.
*Pats you* OK, then, sounding like you are pretty calm. I AM IMPRESSED. Also, blowing off responsibilities is a great way to spend the time. Unless you have... like... a carpet than needs beating (does anyone beat carpets any more? XD). That could be great for the return of zen.

I swear, you really don't know what I just went upstairs to find what my child had just stepped in and tracked all over his sister's carpet.
Suffice it to say, the dog is in trouble right now.
