In which I project

My son is eating and eating and eating. He's 13. I remember my older brother eating everything in the house all the time the year he was 13. Drove my mom crazy the way he went through milk. Not too much longer after that he shot up to his adult height. But I can't help thinking, "Is this boredom or is it a growth spurt? Or could my son be depressed?!" Hot Sauce's voice is changing a little again, so this is most likely a growth spurt. But it's hard for me to see him eating all the time and gaining weight, because I associate that with my pcos episodes (tired, hungry, depressed, really, really tired, hungry some more...) and my mothers frantic eating. Mom often felt life was out of control and eating soothed her. So I associate eating a lot with overeating for depression or anxiety. Doesn't matter that he's in generally in a good mood and driving me crazy with his chattiness- I can't stop thinking he's depressed (he doesn't seem at all anxious- in fact way less than he normally does. He's always been a bit of an anxious kid). I've asked him about it and he says he's fine - happy even. So then I assume he's in denial. I have to stop asking him about it. "It's okay. If there's anything bothering you you can talk to me. Are you sure you're alright?" It's more annoying that the first few months his voice started changing and, at least twice a day, I'd ask him, "Are you sure your throat doesn't hurt? Is it scratchy? It sounds so strange! You okay? Are you sure?"

We've been in the house too much this week. Bee sick and now Hot Sauce had a cold and so no co-op and really, we just need a break from each other. This weekend he's got a drawing class at the museum down the street and then he goes to this music store where they have an all ages/all skills jam session. He can't wait for Saturdays. It's the only time he gets to play on a real drum set.

M.E. wants to be the same thing for Halloween this year as she was last year. She's so damn easy to please! Last year she was a witch. Her grandma and I made the costume. This year she wants to change it a little and be a witch with glasses! Here she last year- as witch without glasses.
