Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting

So yesterday my class went to the Indiana State Museum to see the Radical Lace and Subversive Knitting exhibit. Here are some of my favorite parts.

Kinda crappy photo but those are three teeny-tiny jackets and a pair of socks. They must have been knit with wire. That's insane to me.

A small model of The Knitting Machine.

Amazing lace. It was cut out of a single sheet of fabric with an exacto knife. What you can't see is the amount of this piece which is rolled up and hanging from the ceiling. Or the other two panels of it. This was my favorite piece.

Huge piece that ran half the length of the room the exhibit was in.

Totally awesome beyond words.

I loved the irony of this. It's a christening shawl with "It Sucks" knitted into the middle using yarn-overs (that's a knitting term which means you purposely create a hole in your knitting).

Huge piece made from wire. Some of the wire is so fine I thought it was hair at first.

Full body suit (it buttons in the back) with "Craft Kills" knitted into the front. Those are knitting needles sticking out of it. The same artist who made the shawl made this as well.

All in all it was pretty cool. I had been bugging Jim to take me to see this exhibit for months. It leaves this weekend so it's awesome that I finally got to see it. Everyone else in my class said it was nothing like they expected. I however was happy because it was everything I hoped it would be.
