let them eat cake

It's amazing what beautiful, artistic things people can do with cakes that I can't. I forgot to talk about this yesterday, but one of the daycare parents brought in a cupcake set with a garden theme for their child's last day. The cupcakes were chocolate or vanilla, with chocolate frosting and Oreo crumble 'dirt'. From there, they made frosting sunflowers on pretzel stick trellises, climbing tomatoes and peppers and eggplants with jelly bellies and fondant on pretzel stick trellises, and finally, the vegetables in the ground: radishes and lettuces and potatoes. Even a cupcake adorned with a tiny shovel made of rolled-out, shaped laffy taffy and a piece of licorice.

I love looking at really awesomely decorated cakes. Like this one:

I can't imagine how much time and effort goes into these things, but it makes me want to have a party just for an excuse to try to put together a really amazing cake. Or buy one, I guess, because rolling fondant and marzipan looks super tricky.
