in which i ramble on about everything and my nephew is a sword aficionado

So, once again I am going to sleep at three AM, waking up at 9:30AM, and taking a nap at 7-8 PM and ruining everything. Lather, rinse, repeat. I wish I could fall into a nice, healthy sleep pattern and just stick with it. I expect that since classes started again, I'm going to do it out of necessity. Still trying to decide if I want the Saturday class. Something about classes on weekends just rubs me the wrong way.

Also got a box of Avon make-up from my sister. I don't wear make-up. My experimentation with make-up in middle school was basically me using varieties of blush and lipstick to reproduce bruises and zombie skin, with mixed results. Now I have a box of tiny eyeshadows and lip glosses to choose from. I expect I'll make myself up to look like a sort of panda, and then get bored with the thing and chuck it.

I never got around to making a post about my last Orlando trip, but it was amazing fun. I went to Islands of Adventure with the intention of returning to the Harry Potter part of the theme park. My mom basically shoved my dad at me, no matter how many times I told her that I had intended to go alone and didn't want my dad accompanying me. (I have a tense relationship with him.) Anyway, he ended up coming with after I invited him, and we actually managed to have fun. I took some dramamine, so I was able to stand the smaller coasters and the simulator rides without getting incredibly nauseous. The Spiderman simulator was fun, especially because it was in the style of the old cartoon, very eighties. You walked into the newspaper offices, and then into this big room where Jameson barked instructions at you to go snap pictures of the lowlife scum invading the city. Spiderman, of course, shows up to pull your bacon out of the fire. (Almost literally, there's some villain with fire power who shows up and shoots flame at you!) The whole section is done up to look very Marvel comics, bright colors and geometric shapes and store names with obvious references.

The Harry Potter section of the park was as amazing as it was previously. I love going into the Owl Post, which pretty much shares space with Ollivanders. It's packed with wand shelves, and the people who work there will give you one that fits with your birthdate, after the celtic calender. (Mine is Holly for July!) Almost all the character's wands are there, along with some random creepy skeletal wands and the birthdate wands. Also, you can send a friend a postcard from Hogwarts.

My dad went into the super-long butterbeer line, but fortunately this time around the lines were much shorter. I could just walk into Honeydukes instead of waiting a half hour to enter. Bought up some chocolate frogs and Bertie Botts and pumpkin juice. I keep trying for a Rowena Ravenclaw card, but can never get it! I always get Helga Hufflepuff, lol. My dad bought me a phoenix t-shirt at the gift shop after the Harry Potter Hogwarts simulator ride, which is TONS of fun and if you guys get the chance, you should totally go for it. Also went on Flight of the Hippogriff, a small coaster that seemed too short for the long line preceding it.

We also went to the Dr. Seuss portion to go on their Cat in the Hat ride and the soothing train ride in the sky. Both are pretty much made for the kiddies, but we'd been standing in lines all day and enjoyed the reprieve of both air conditioning and non-jerky motions. As the train took us through the main Seuss cafeteria, I somehow managed to smell spaghetti, (I have amazing olfactory senses. I think this is to make up for the astigmatism.) and dragged my dad there to indulge in a plate. I was pretty much starving at that point despite having a late 'breakfast' at the park.

Also, my dad made reservations for this restaurant my whole family loves, Emeril's Chop Chop, which is Asian-inspired cuisine. It was the perfect end to the evening.

We also hit Disney World for the first time since I was 17, and it's much more fun as a child than as an adult. I'm not exactly surprised by this, but I definitely felt the age gap this year and nothing as far as the rides went managed to really thrill me. I did like the way the park looked, though. Everything was beautiful and whimsical and I snapped a lot of photos of the shops and buildings. Mainly we went for the benefit of the baby- who, being three now, isn't much of a baby anymore. T__T

We can still bond over swords and keys. MY nephew loves swords and pirates and big, metal keys. He is shaping up well. I intend to commandeer his birthday decorations this year and throw the party in lieu of a gift, because he has far too many toys than is good for him. Totally planning a pirate theme. My mom is already sold, but I want to wrap everything together before I present it to the sis. (Also I should maybe do it later, as his birthday is in September. I get excited ahead of time because I love planning things for kids.)
