Tomato with basil and fresh mozzarella is probably my favorite hot weather food right now. It's so simple and refreshing. I like cool or cold foods when it's hot, and typically don't want to eat meat when it's just baking outside.
I took a three-day vacation off of work this week, so this was my first day just lounging around doing nothing. I was going to hit DC for museum-hopping, but woke up past noon and decided to save that for Wednesday. Today was spent driving around to various book shops and having lunch at a nice place for once. I probably should have spent some time cleaning, but I thought it seemed like too much work for my vacation day. Tomorrow, aflightoffancy and I are going to Water Country USA in Williamsburg- pretty much the reason for me calling off of work, since the drive there consists of fighting horrible, horrible traffic over the weekends.
This is a really cool concept. Basically the pages in the book are seeded with spices, so if you want pepper or chili powder, you just rip some off the (edible and dissoluble) paper and toss it into your dish. It's not being sold right now, but I would totally want one of these. It reminds me of an old Looney Tunes cartoon in which the main character was so hungry he'd resorted to tearing out pictures of food from books and cooking them. XD
