sometimes i have way too much free time on my hands

My creativity is slowly finding its way back, which means I'm going to be thrown into all sorts of creative endeavors until it goes away. I think the last time something like this hit I went on a jewelry-making kick and did a lot of beading. This time it's me thinking of making decorative containers, shadow boxes, and replications of fandom stuff. All of these are seriously crafty, so I'm going to spend some time hitting Micheal's and Paper Source for ideas/materials.

To kick that spurt off, I made a doll's wand yesterday as an experiment. I got an old, plain cardboard box that had once been used to use a bracelet, and lightly spray-painted it with gold. I took a length of chocolate-brown ribbon and a tortoiseshell-looking button for the ribbon and seal. On the button, I cut a circle of paper to fit inside the center and tea-stained it to age it, then with a calligraphy pen, drew: 'O'.

For the wand, I cut a 5 1/2 inch piece off of a chopstick and wrapped the bottom with ribbon and UHU to make a 'handle'. On a small piece of yellow parchment paper, I wrote in cursive with a calligraphy pen: Ollivander's Wand Shop, maker of fine wands since 382 BC. The wand you have purchased is a genuine product of Ollivander's, please treat it with care. And then, in sloppier, more freehand letters: '5 1/2 inches, birch, phoenix feather' I dripped blue wax onto the letter and sealed it with an interesting pen cap, wrapped the wand in a wide length of shimmery white ribbon, and closed up the box.

I was pretty happy with the first try and gave it to a kid at the daycare. Unfortunately, I was not foresighted enough to take pictures of the final product. Oops.

I have a bunch of different ideas in mind, but I might make a bunch of the little wands to give out. They're really fun to make.

creative time is go, crafts, real life, babbling, happiness
