stupid habits of dudes

In today's news, I am not fond of the tendency of men to rev their engines ridiculously loud in an effort to impress the ladies. I do not know a single woman who is impressed by this shit. There must be some, because we're all individuals, but really I find the habit tiresome, obnoxious, and indicative of some masculine insecurity ( Read more... )

I always end up running into men who rev their engines when they have piteously tiny cars. Not that a large car would be attractive, it's just that the small ones are so hilarious. I admit I have missed green lights due to laughing so hard at sad men revving cars that sound like electric shavers.

My sister and her neighbor got so tired of their husbands' friends going on about their penis size that they started shouting to each other:

"HEY! Have you seen the size of my eggs? I've got HUUUUGE EGGS!"

"What? NO! Your eggs aren't nearly as big as MY EGGS!" *giant gesture to ovaries* "My eggs are like WOOOOAH!"

It stopped them pretty quickly :D

I'd be more than willing to wager that masculine posturing like the engine thing is for homosocial acceptance rather than any attempt to impress women.

I don't have a link to the study (it was a survey) that evidenced that more than anything, men are concerned about the approval of other men, but anecdotal evidence and understanding of patriarchy makes it pretty damn obvious. Even a lot of performative heterosexual behavior is done for the approval of a male jury.

If you have a group of guys catcalling women, chances are they don't think it will actually impress any women, nor do they give a fuck about what the women think of it; it's for the other guys to see how bold and manly they are.
