well, there goes one new show down the drain

So, Legend of the Seeker got canceled, just as I was slowly watching and getting into it. ASDFGHJKL. Why is that always the way? Why, Firefly? WHY. All the good shows get canceled! Although the upside of that is that it didn't have time to degenerate into long, dragged-out awful, like some shows do. (Buffy. Charmed. The further I went along, the more ridiculous the plot became. I wish some shows would just end when they're done.)

I call this effect the "OH GOD ROLL THE CREDITS" effect. It's when you start realizing that the show/movie/book series/manga you've been enjoying so much has become a twisted mockery of its former self, is warping the characters, trashing the plot, and basically being flushed down a black hole of suck. You want to treasure the early moments of the fandom because that is where all those well-written, happy funtimes came from, but it's your show. You keep watching as it dies a slow death. I suppose being canceled is better than that, right?

So, I hear Dr. Who is incredibly awesome this season. Should I be terrified to watch it? I feel like I should be, since if I love it, I will inevitably get sucked into a fandom, and Dr. Who has so much backstory and so many previous seasons/Doctors that I don't actually want to do research on. (Also, it seems like the sort of fandom that inspires old canon purists, like the Star Trek fandom, and that's a problem for me if I want to fic it.)

fandom, babbling
