AUUUGH I CAN'T BELIEVE I MISSED THE NEW GLEE EPISODE. WAS IT AMAZING? WAS IT WONDERFUL?
NO WAIT. DON'T SPOIL ME. MY SISTER RECORDED IT FOR US.
*FLAIL*
So, yeah. Watched the first episode of Legend of the Seeker. Have not yet been infected by the obsession bug. Perhaps this is one of those series that gradually hooks you after watching many episodes and then all of the sudden, you are hooked irreparably. The first episode is pretty classic fantasy mixed with Jesus elements.
The Seeker is pretty much another messiah figure, especially with the whole prophesy thing going on and killing all the firstborn sons? Classically Biblical. But, hey, Avatar had a messiah figure and I loved it, so messiah figures aren't an immediate turn-off. I just...don't really care about Richard as of yet. He's a character type I've seen a lot of before, and it doesn't do anything for me. Still, as long as he doesn't go around whining and putting off Seeker duties like some messiah figures I know, I will be completely fine with this guy.
I did think Kahlan was pretty damn fly. (Although she...reminds me of an adult Katara. Seriously! Adult Katara! I swear to god! They share some character traits, okay? All she needed was to say: 'the Seeker gives us hope' and I would have been there.) I like her mind-warping abilities and her 'sworn to seek out the truth' elite group of ladies she belongs to. I think my favorite part of this episode was her yelling at the wizard about not training Richard. "MY SISTER DIED FOR THIS GUY AND HE'S JUST A NOOB. WHAT WERE YOU DOING?" I completely agree. Wow, Zedd, talk about irresponsible. I understand that you wanted to give him a peaceful life, but...you were just made of fail in how you went about it.
Annnd now we have to spend the rest of the episode watching him go nuts. Look, Zedd. See what you did? I hate it when they keep the Chosen One in the dark. It never makes any damn sense. Kind of like...great destinies themselves not making sense. And having one and only one person being the One Person who can defeat the bad guy. I just don't happen to like destinies being in charge of people's fates. I think I would just prefer them just being really badass action people who just happen to do really badass action things, without all the predestination nightmares that come with prophecies and determinism.
Nothing really new here, and it comes with a whole host of fantasy must-haves. Prophecies, chosen ones, mysterious old men turning out to be wizards, dramatic parent death, mysterious and beautiful woman with utmost trust in male lead. I'm gonna watch about five more episodes before making a final like it/dislike it statement, since you shouldn't judge by first episode alone and some series are slow to get into. Besides, a bunch of f-list people seem to like it a lot.
Meanwhile, I am slowly but surely hooking myself on Claymore. OH, CLAYMORE. Where have you been all my life?
More on this later, as my break is now over.
