This week has been one moment of fail quickly following the footsteps of another. I really wonder if I should bother with Friday night D&D session and the knowledge that, in going to do my social funtimes for the week, I shall have to confront one of the main bastions of gender!fail in my life. (Last Friday, we had a debate over whether or not the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts should become one scout troop. I was in favor of desegregating the genders, he believes they should be separate as well as certain areas of education because male and female brains are wired differently.) It's always an education talking with these guys, because I am made to be aware that I am, apparently, more trusting in the open-mindedness of my age group than I really should be.
Documenting this week's gender fail at home, I learned my dad took baby to the playground, and when he brought him back, it was clear he'd fallen down and split his lip. When Nicole asked him why he didn't take baby home to put ice on the injury, the exact words were: "Do you want your son to grow up to be a bitch or a fag?" Right. Way to use patriarchy AND heteronormativity in one fell swoop to prove, yet again, that you are a conservatard.
I must add here that the baby is very literally a baby. Only a year old. Yes, his grandson's blooming 'masculinity' kept my father from taking a fucking baby home and getting care for his injury.
I realize that I have absolutely no patience for masculinity. I have no empathy for masculinity. I have absolutely no pity for men who claim to feel 'emasculated', because they seem to be equating masculinity with physical power and control- therefore eliminating both from feminine nature. I've become to equate society's view of masculinity with an overweening sense of entitlement and a desire to dominate women. 'Masculinity' by nature seems to exist off of the subjugation of the female compounded with the glorification of aggression, violence, and oppressive behavior.
