Happy Thanksgiving to all of you American people on my friendslist!
It really feels like the holidays are speeding by fast this year. Just yesterday it was Halloween, and now we have all this Christmas music playing. (Which I don't actually listen to, and won't until December 15 rolls along.) I just feel like it's all happening at an incredibly breakneck pace this year. Having said that, I still need to buy a present for the two kids I babysit, and my mom, and my dad.
Although I do believe that I have given up on my dad. He never wants or needs anything, and what he does want is always amazingly boring that it...amazes me. Like socks. Socks. What is the point of wrapping those up? I always feel as though the wrapping paper is there to make the awesome present even more amazing by virtue of adding a sort of mysterious allure to it. You simply can not achieve that same level of interest with socks. All the joy of the package will be carried by the wrapping paper. It almost makes me want to wrap it in dull, brown paper.
He also just fails to be an interesting person. He doesn't have hobbies, he doesn't collect anything, he doesn't have a fondness for one thing or another. He likes to cook, but he never uses any cookbooks I get him. (Just sticks with the ones we have.) When I get him a gift certificate to go to a restaurant I know he likes, it takes him until the end of forever to go. I bought him a Dick's Sporting Goods certificate last year and he never used it. It just rotted in a cabinet, forgotten, until I gave up and let my sister use it, because those things don't actually last forever.
I'll just get him food this year. Or something.
