it's just another manic monday

Monday morning is always such a downer. It's like waking up after having a particularly nice dream. On a cold winter morning. After your space heater breaks down. I don't suppose anyone particularly looks forward to Monday morning unless they have some extraordinary circumstances. (Like, Monday happens to be their day off.) Tuesday's just as bad, in my opinion, because then we're still so close to the beginning of the week, it's depressing. I feel no sense of progress at all on Tuesday. It seems, in fact, to be just another Monday. The week is comprise of Monday, Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and finally glorious Friday.

I know people claim that Wednesday is somewhat disappointing in that it comes right in the middle of the week and you are meant to feel like you're in a week sandwich on 'hump-day,' but I always liked Wednesday. It was like a halfway marker for me. "We've begun to make progress.' Not to mention that now, my friend afflightoffancy and I have put it aside as our Day of Weekly Celebration. Used to be restaurant day, but with Christmas shopping season and other costly issues lurking around, it has become: 'We Do Whatever Is Reasonably Affordable' night. So we go to the mall or get a dessert. But I digress. Wednesday continues to be far superior to the two days that come before it.

Meanwhile, I continue to try and cultivate a taste for tea. The other day, while looking in Teavana with afflightoffancy, I was given a sample cup of some seasonal chai they had. I actually enjoyed it, despite it being a little sweet. It tasted, strangely, like a cup of Big Red bubble gum in liquid form. I actually think I would like masala chai, once I get down to it and buy myself a cup. I'm just a hopelessly forgetful person who means to accomplish a great deal of things without actually remembering to do them, once the time has come.

On this list of Things I Want To Do: make daikon nimono, try to make some nabe stock, buy more beads for bracelets for the relatives, start making that board game I invented again, and make these lovely-looking green tea shortbread cookies. Don't those look amazing? I don't have a leaf cookie-cutter, though, so they'd have to be circle-shaped. Still, maybe some time this week, I can buy some matcha powder and unsalted butter and get down to business.
