save some light for me

I've discovered that I don't find conventionally attractive people to be attractive at all. I actually find them boring. I look at movie stars and models, male or female, and find them generally uninteresting unless they go out of the pre-established mold of 'pretty'. I don't like 'pretty' or 'handsome' people, I like people who are interesting to look at and have a variety of different facial features and body types. I like androgyny, long, gangly body types, and sharp, angular faces. I like large women, small-breasted women, and people of every ethnicity and practically every other body shape. The idea of one 'ideal' body type does not appeal to me at all. In fact, it's almost repellent. Then again, when I've explained how I don't find those conventional standards of beauty appealing at all, I've been told it's because I'm asexual and thereofore can't see the beauty standards like 'normal people' can. Perhaps that has something to do with it.

I've been recommended to read The Empire Trilogy by some of my D&D geek friends. Anyone who has read those books or knows about them, could you please tell me if they're worth a read? From what they explained, the worldbuilding sounds interesting, and they made it seem like the female character was the one it focused on. So, a universe that's not based on typical European fantasy elements AND a strong female lead? Sounds too good to be true! Do I have to read the Rift War saga to understand it, though? That sounds more like the typical masculine-centric fantasy adventure I try to avoid.

For those who responded to my meme, I am writing your fics as we speak.
