End of Egypt unit. I brought in two teddy bears for the kids to mummify: one they named Queen Neferbear, and the other King Tut. After I read to them about the mummification process, they went on their merry ways 'washing the body', 'removing' bear organs, dipping the bear in salt, wrapping it in paper towel bandages, anointing it with actual scented oil, and making teddy bear death masks. The two oldest kids, acting as the high priest and priestess of Osiris, did most of the role-assigning, like sending kids to do coffin detail and other kids to write a long prayer in the name of their monarch. Then, after it was all done, they laid the bears to rest in a grand burial ceremony involving pyramid tombs made out of big, wooden blocks.
Did I mention how much I loved this unit?
Meanwhile, after seeing
redbrunja mention
'Yankee-kun to Megane-chan' many times in her blog, I went to Onemanga to check it out. AND I ADORE IT TO ITTY BITTY LITTLE PIECES.
The heroine is an established badass in that she can kick the butt of pretty much anyone in the manga, she drags everyone along in her zaniness and is pretty much the 'leader' of the crew just by dint of her super-strong personality, and she's an adorkable moron when it comes to schoolwork. The main male lead is hilarious in his reactions to this girl. His facial expressions whenever she pulls another insane hijink make me die laughing. Seriously, this artist has made comic expressions an elevated art form. I love their relationship for many reasons, some being:
-She can and will kick his ass, panty shots notwithstanding.
-She calls the shots and he flails wildly in the tsunami of her will.
-He crushes on her like crazy while she remains completely oblivious and possibly unaffected.
-He looks out for her, not because she can't handle herself, but because he knows she will cause a shitstorm of ass-handing that will do her harm in the end. Ooohhh, you two.
The cast consists of a group of weird, somewhat crazy individuals banding together under their chief weirdo, which is a trope I am partiicularly fond of. (See: Slayers anime and Ouran High School Host Club.) Together, this crew manages to take everyone who runs into them on a long roadtrip into Crazytown, complete with random fights, school races through peoples' houses, WoW parodies, and piles of denseness.
...What are the odds of finding fanfic for this?
