Do you have any idea what it's like to wake up in the same house with someone and they not know who you are?
Do you know how tiring night time can become when your family member can't sleep and you have to stay up with them?
Can you imagine the pain of watching a loved one slowly wither away?
My family is going through that.
Do you know what it feels like to have your husband not know you?
Do you have any idea how hard it is to constantly watch over someone who, for well over 60 years of life, has been fiercely independent?
Can you imagine being married to someone for over 42 years and they can't even remember when you were married?
My mother is going through that.
Do you know what it feels like to have your father not recognize you?
Do you have any idea how painful it is to see things your father loved and then show them to him again and he not understand them?
Can you imagine the person who fed, cared for, and loved you for all of these years is helpless and their is nothing you can do to stop it?
That is what my sibings are going through.
My father has Early onset Vascular Dementia. He has no idea where he is, who we are, or what he is doing anymore. He needs help to do the simplest of things. He cannot remember who my mother is 85% of the time. It is hard and it's not fair. I am angry, blindingly so and I cannot even express to you the hatered I feel right now towards this disease. It has stolen my father from me and I am pissed.
Now, if you excuse me I am going to go and finish my homework before I go screaming into the night and kill someone.
