Worth the wait

I've purchased the Firefly soundtrack finally, and it is definitely worth the wait. I've listened to very little else over the last couple of days. It's sparse on themes, leaning more towards creating mood with instrumentation and short ideas. My only regret is that many of the cuts or so short - being written as they were for short scenes - they strung them together in single tracks that end up being fairly disconnected. An example: Saved/Isn't Home/Reaver. This goes from a somewhat chipper country style to very sentimental strings to heavy percussion in under three minutes.

The highlights of the album are definitely "The Funeral," "Out of Gas/Empty Derelict" and "River Takes Early." For some odd reason, even though there is only one release of the album, they listed a third of the tracks as "bonus tracks." WTF? Bonus defined how?

I own many TV soundtracks, and this one I think is the strongest musically on its own. The only thing they could have done to improve it was include "The Hero of Canton."
