Looking for Alaska

Looking for Alaska by the wonderfully talented John Green. This book is populated by the most unique characters I've read in a long time. It follows Miles aka "Pudge", the new kid at Culver Creek boarding school in Alabama as he learns to drink, smoke, and prank the rich kids from his new friends Chip aka "the Colonel" and the mysterious, fucked-up and beautiful Alaska Young (who reminds me of Effy from Skins SO MUCH). The book is divided into two parts: Before in which Pudge meets Alaska & the Colonel, pulls some hilarious pranks, and generally just pines after Alaska. After in which a horrible event befalls the students at Culver Creek and everything changes. I don't want to give too much away.

Quotes:
“You spend your whole life stuck in the labyrinth, thinking about how you’ll escape it one day, and how awesome it will be, and imagining that future keeps you going, but you never do it. You just use the future to escape the present.”

“Sometimes I don’t get you,” I said.
She didn’t even glance at me. She just smiled towards the television and said, “You never get me. That’s the whole point.”

Basically everyone needs to read this. It's wonderfully angsty.
